Emergence
The following is the story of the different threads that became the the Harmonic Sound Keys. These are the weavings of the threads occurring over decades.
Thread One: 1998-2011
I worked with groups of people who were in treatment for three areas: trauma, addiction, and mental health diagnosis. The term mental health diagnosis often simply means depression or anxiety as well as other areas. In this setting I developed a 6-week routine where there were different exercises and activities that drew upon engaging people in specific ways that were unexpected but supportive, enriching, building trust, restorative, and deepening awareness. In the routine I used specific sound patterns and their influence on shifting consciousness, developing entrainment, and building resilience.
-Repeating Patterns
Another component of the routine was a system with blank pieces of paper with a statement that has an open ending. This ‘game’ had people write in their words and then we worded with the papers as a group in different ways. As I used this ‘game’ I noticed repeating patterns of words that were put in over the years.
I also worked with people with cancer and immune compromised illness in a clinic. These people also put in the same words as the group above.
-Mystery School
At the same time I had a mystery school program and when using the same system they also used the same words. My observation was that as human beings there are primary foundational concerns, desires, needs, longings that people have whatever their age or gender, whatever their diagnosis or if they did not have a diagnosis.
-Maybe It Was Incubation
After several years I put these statements onto thick cloud paper so they system was more uniform in handling. After 2011 I put the system away and did not use it.
Thread Two: Appearance of Song/Chants
Going back further I have always sung since I was a child. Over the years I have explored singing not as a professional performer but with enjoyment.
About three years ago I started listening to what I was singing, which sounds like why would you need to do that? What I was noticing is ‘little’ melodies showing up that were unique when I was driving or doing the dishes or walking around. I started recording these and noticed there were several hundred.
Thread Three: Research
About three years ago I had created a business that was structured based on my background as a Doctor of Behavioral health. It was a more mainstream program to integrate with doctors, dentists, people working with psychedelics, and treatments centers. However the premise was built on the plethora of research I had accumulated and also done as a researcher during the pandemic on how specific sounds dynamically change us body, mind, emotions, and consciousness. (you can read more about the research on the research page). How specific sound patterns profoundly change us, our very DNA and epigenetics. I was flabbergasted that there were no programs that integrated these concepts.
-One Realization
And I also realized I had already been doing these things in the different groups and routines with people for decades so this research corroborated what I saw to be true from experience.
Thread Four: A Vacuum or Chrysalis
The website was built and the layers were all in place and it didn’t have a good feeling. It felt heavy and difficult and had for a few years. One day, a mentor said to me, why don’t you just stop since it isn’t working. This took my breath away, but when I looked at all of it, honestly. I knew she was right. So I did. I shut it all down. And then there was a vacuum of space but it was also the chrysalis.
-Opportunity Disguised as Loss
The vacuum-chrysalis allowed for me to revisit the papers after over a decade had passed since they had been used. I started making art for each of the papers as a system with a logo and made the statements for each. Not long after this process is when I noticed there were several hundred recordings. I had joined a sacred women’s song carrier and chant group at this time as well. These were women who had been chanting in ceremony together for almost a decade. Several times I hesitantly shared two of the different chants. Hearing them in the sacred space, having people say they felt the power, ancientness, and feeling of the energy and how meaningful they were shifted my awareness about what they were. Some had non-English words, some are vocables-syllables with no words, some have some English words. (More about the words and the non-words in the section about the keys).
The Weaving Altogether: Unexpected
It was at this time I realized the greater composition of a program-the activation statements, the narration that told more about the meaning and related stories, the different ways people could incorporate the meaning into their life through activities to participate-those were all easy process of unfolding. And the part that was unexpected was my sharing revealed the potency as song/chants through the breath, tones, patterns, were part of the activations and emerged to go with each of the papers that become the ‘keys.’
There is one more part-the feeling. When I have used these song/chants alone and with others there are feelings and shifts in awareness. These are more difficult to put language to because our language lives in structure. These shits are palpable in awareness, in dropping into the heart, into willingness and connection, from laughter to tears and between, noticing, observing, developing and expanding into a greater field of being.
